The CAPM® (Certified Associate in Project Management) seminar is designed for those beginning their project management career and wishing to obtain a recognised entry-level certification from PMI.

According to Entrepreneur Media, Inc., the CAPM certification is ranked #1 among the 9 most in-demand professional certifications ('The 9 Most In-Demand Professional Certifications').

The curriculum is based on the latest Exam Content Outline (ECO) 2023 and takes into account the latest editions of the PMBOK Guide, the Agile Practice Guide and the Process Groups Practice Guide.

All 4 Domains of the curriculum are fully covered: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (36%), Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies (17%), Agile Frameworks/Methodologies (20%), Business Analysis Frameworks (27%).

The seminar uses the official PMI materials (450+ pages, glossary, etc.) with additional explanatory content for a better understanding of the concepts.

The seminar materials include the official print preparation book 'Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® Exam Official Cert Guide', published by PMI.

Exam Content — CAPM Exam Content Outline (2023 Exam Update)

The CAPM exam covers 4 domains and combines project management fundamentals, predictive, agile and business analysis.

According to the official CAPM ECO, predictive, adaptive and business analysis approaches run throughout the exam and are not confined to a single domain.

Domain I: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts — 36%

Core concepts, planning, roles, execution of plans/strategies and problem-solving tools.

  • Task 1 – Demonstrate an understanding of the various project life cycles and processes: projects/programs/portfolios, operations, predictive vs adaptive, issues/risks/assumptions/constraints and project scope.
  • Task 2 – Demonstrate an understanding of project management planning: cost, quality, risk, schedule, deliverables, milestones, resources, risk register, stakeholder register and project closure/transitions.
  • Task 3 – Demonstrate an understanding of project roles and responsibilities: project manager, sponsor, team, leadership vs management and emotional intelligence.
  • Task 4 – Determine how to follow and execute planned strategies or frameworks: implementation of plans/strategies such as communications and risk, as well as project initiation and benefit planning.
  • Task 5 – Demonstrate an understanding of common problem-solving tools and techniques: meetings, focus groups, standups, brainstorming and related techniques.

Domain II: Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies — 17%

Predictive approach, schedule planning and project controls.

  • Task 1 – Explain when it is appropriate to use a predictive, plan-based approach: suitability per organizational structure, activities per process and core project components.
  • Task 2 – Demonstrate an understanding of a project management plan schedule: critical path, schedule variance, WBS, work packages, quality plan and integration plan.
  • Task 3 – Determine how to document project controls of predictive, plan-based projects: predictive artifacts as well as cost/schedule variances.

Domain III: Agile Frameworks/Methodologies — 20%

Adaptive approaches, iterations, agile controls, adaptive plans and task execution.

  • Task 1 – Explain when it is appropriate to use an adaptive approach: adaptive vs predictive, suitability per organizational structure and OPAs/EEFs that support adaptive approaches.
  • Task 2 – Determine how to plan project iterations: logical iteration units, pros/cons, converting WBS to iterations, inputs for scope and adaptive tracking.
  • Task 3 – Determine how to document project controls for an adaptive project: agile/adaptive artifacts.
  • Task 4 – Explain the components of an adaptive plan: Scrum, XP, SAFe, Kanban and other adaptive methodologies.
  • Task 5 – Determine how to prepare and execute task management steps: success criteria and prioritization in adaptive project management.

Domain IV: Business Analysis Frameworks — 27%

BA roles, stakeholder communication, requirements, product roadmaps, BA in different methodologies and validation through delivery.

  • Task 1 – Demonstrate an understanding of business analysis roles and responsibilities: stakeholder roles, the need for clear roles and internal vs external roles.
  • Task 2 – Determine how to conduct stakeholder communication: appropriate channels/tools and the importance of the business analyst communicating with different groups.
  • Task 3 – Determine how to gather requirements: user stories, use cases, interviews, surveys, workshops, lessons learned and requirements traceability matrix/product backlog.
  • Task 4 – Demonstrate an understanding of product roadmaps: use of product roadmap and distribution of components across releases.
  • Task 5 – Determine how project methodologies influence business analysis processes: the role of the business analyst in adaptive and predictive environments.
  • Task 6 – Validate requirements through product delivery: acceptance criteria and readiness for delivery based on traceability matrix or product backlog.
